I am having trouble, on occasions starting my 1999 odyssey. The engine will crank but not start at times. However, if I put my foot down on the accelerator the car will start. The dealer has no idea why this is occurring ? His only thought is that something on my key ring is causing interference with the electrical signal and thus the car will crank over but not start. This does not explain the why it starts when I put my foot on the gas ,…. or does it .. ? anybody have any ideas ?

Re: Odyssey wont start
Maybe a weak battery or just flooded. Do you move the car around alot in the driveway when this happens?

Re: Odyssey wont start
because when the motor cranks slower than it needs to the crank sensor doesn't pick up the signal so the pcm doesn't know where ti pistons are. When you step on the gas you actually alow more air to get into the engine and actually cause the engine to spin faster. Think of it this way. If you turn on the vacum cleaner and put your hand over the nozzle it sucks. now imaging the nozzle being covered 90 percent. That means only 10% of air can get in so the motor is straining to suck the air in. Now remove the block and it runs at full speed. Thats almost what stepping on the gas does. You open the butterfly in the throttle body because if the car was running and you put your hand over it it would suck your hand in like a vacum cleaner.
