Can a lighter underdrive pulley cause bad vibes?

I have a crank shaft pully that is comming apart, and a new one from mitsu costs $125, so i checked up and i can get a lighter performance one for cheaper. But i have heard that lighter crankshaft pulleys will vibrate more because the stock ones designed to be heavy to absorb vibrations caused by the engine. Is this true for the 4g64? anyone had any problems?

Re: Can a lighter underdrive pulley cause bad vibes?

My pulley doesnt cause any vibrations. Actually, now that i think about it, I got my motor mounts and the pulley installed at the same time. It shouldn't though. You're not changing anything really big. No weight change. If anything, I would think a lighter one would make it smoother.

I have heard that you have to rev the engine slightly to make the power steering work properly when your at a standstill

What?

There is no problem with the power steering at idle. Swaping pulleys don't affect the accessories that much. Alternator will put out a little less juice than the stock pulley, but there will be difference with the power steering. Also, I don't know too many people that turn when not moving.

True, don't use lightweight crank pullys. Use New factory Mitsubishi crank pullys. Lightweight pullys are ok for everything else.

Re: Can a lighter underdrive pulley cause bad vibes?

You need a pulley with a harmonic balancer or I think the crank sees to much vibration. I don't really know the specifics but I'd stick with OEM or an aftermarket one with a harmonic balancer.

That didn't make sense. Lol. You tell him not to use a lightweight pulley, then you say they're good for everything else. Meaning what? Just asking.

He meant that you shouldn't use lightweight underdrive pulleys because most of them do not have a harmonic balance. But it is all right to use lightweight pullys for everything else.
