pay to repair damage on lease? help
I have a leased 2000 pontiac montana to turn in end of Dec. Really got ripped off , 6yr.lease and very high payments. Nice car but my hubby got sucked in to the salesman , soooo. We are under miles, new tires, but have a nick in the drivers windshield and some scratches and dings on body. I know some people who have the glass repair done thru insurance co. at no cost. but that worries me because of what they might do as far as rates etc. Should I try to find a place to repair whatever I can first? before turning in? I am really afraid of what they will charge me with. I heard the damage is charged 2x what I can get it repaired for? I wish I could take it now to the dropoff place and have them tell me what they will charge me with and the cost, so I can turn around and see if I can do it myself for cheaper. I just dont know what the surprises will be. Besides the disposition fee etc. Also I have to drive almost an hour away to turn it in to a autoauction place? The dealer does not take it back. Really got ripped off. the leasing company was Provident and now is National City. I will never lease again. Any advice? chatty

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
My dh listened to a coworker to go to this dealer back in December of 1999 and not knowing what he was getting himself into. He ended up with this brandnew van (at the time) that we could not afford and could not take back. He signed a 6 yr lease and thank goodness it is finally going to be over in December. I cant wait to get this overpriced vehicle out of here. The salesman really did a job on my hubby. He said he will never do it again. lesson learned. You dont even want to know how much we paid!!!! But now how do I get away with the least amount to pay? Nick in window, scratches, dents, etc. I have no idea how much they will charge us. Along with the $350 disposition fee.!!!

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
I believe when you end a lease you no longer own the vehicle or own anything on it. The bank now owns it in which now they offer you a "buy it out price" which generally means that they will sell the car for less than its worth due to the fact that they dont want it. All you have to do is trade it in.

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
First thing, read the contract for the lease, which will give you the information you need about repairs, etc.
It's true that the dealer will overcharge you for repairs. While some wear and tear is expected over 6 years, the contract will specify what is acceptable. It may pay you to have the repairs made prior to turning in the lease, or it may not - -it all depends on what the contract says. Second, I don't know about Chevy4life1985's suggestion about trading in the vehicle. There are many things the stealership can do to you when you're trading in. This thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=333644 Has some good info, you'll have to read down a bit. Hopefully that's helpful.

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
leasing is actually a good way to get a new car....but only lease for 2 years and make sure that its a car that won't lose substantial value in 2 years.
Honda, Acura, Lexus.....etc just to name a few that are good to lease!!

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
Leasing is a good thing, but not for six (6) years. That's way too long. A two (2) or three (3) year lease can be a good thing if you're a low mileage driver and you know how leasing REALLY works.

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
I'll never lease a car, unless my company is paying for it. I drive way too much.

Re: pay to repair damage on lease? help
leasing was good for me. 4 years (all they offered), ridiculously low monthly payments, puts me in a car (transit here sucks ass) and I never have to worry about mechanical repairs, not too much anyway.
Worked for me, not for anyone. I don't have a garage where I can work on an older car if it breaks down, nor the money to have someone repair. I would get the body work done. They need to fix those dings and scratches before reselling it. At least, that's what the'll say. Find a cheap place to do it, they'll only look at it from the outside. If I have dings at the end of my lease, I'll have them suctioned out, and minor scratches I'll retouch myself with a kit from canadian tire costing 10 bucks. Good luck.
