Grand Am GT vs. SRT-4

First, a bit of background. Every year, they resurface some of the roads in my city. When they do this, they take off the top layer of a section of road. Sometimes when they do this, there can be a considerable bump where they made the cut into the section of surface they've removed. Quite often, you can take these bumps at the speed limit...but once in a while, the bump is so severe, it will cause damage paticularly if you have low profile tires if you don't slow down. At these bumps, they erect a temporary "Bump" sign, and it's usually wise to obey the sign and slow down.

I was out driving with my wife riding shotgun. I approached a red light with a blue Neon SRT-4 sitting in the right lane on a road where they're resurfacing the intersection and a small part of the road either way on the one which I'm travelling on. I've been here before and know that the bump by the "Bump" sign up ahead is quite severe. The sign is in plain sight and is easily seen from where we are. As I pulled up next to the Neon, the kid behind the wheel revved his engine to be sure I could hear it. It was definitely an SRT-4. I looked over, grinned, popped into neutral and gave him a rev back. He sneered at me and started revving a lot more. My wife gave me a puzzled look, so I gave her a wink. She said, "Oh, I know that you know that there's a big nasty bump up past the intersection; what I can't figure out is if he knows it and is trying to goad you into slamming into it." I said to her, "Only one way to find out."

I put it back into drive, turned off traction control, and just when the light turned green, I goosed the gas pedal to get a chirp out of the tires. I had the jump on the SRT-4, which then exploded into a cacophony of screeching tires and a revving turbocharged engine. I said to my grinning wife, "Well, now we know." Since I only goosed it for the chirp and wasn't actually trying, he rocketed away from me at a very good rate of speed. I was actually impressed. Then...BOOM. I swear we could feel the shockwave from when his car hit that bump. He was still going, but it was evident from the rate I was closing in on him that he was no longer accelerating. I slowed right down for the bump, rode over it, and saw him stopped up ahead on the side of the road. I continued at my slow rate of speed to have a good look; sure enough, he had two flat front tires and the rims were bent up and cracked. Well, at least on the driver's side; I'm assuming the passenger side was the same. Who knows what other damage he did to his drivetrain; I'm almost certain I saw something dripping under his car. He was just getting out to inspect the damage when he saw me rolling by. He gave me a real evil look, to which my wife rolled back the sunroof and waved. When I was past him, I slowed even more, put on the 4 way flashers, then sped off.

Good thing it was just a Neon.

Re: Grand Am GT vs. SRT-4

Why would an SRT-4 start revving it's engine just because a Grand AM pulled up next to it?

Re: Grand Am GT vs. SRT-4

oviously he wanted to prove a point to the kid. always know where your racing, like in this case the road conditions. anyone can floor it, but if you dont know the road conditions, he'll do something wrong.

but n e ways, if it was him who came revving up to him in the first place i dont think much of any thing. it was the kid who was going to pull off anyway trying to be slick in his 'nice new ride'. just shows how smart you have to be when racing digital. he might just put a bump in the middle of the track where your racing....it kinda sounds like what Shingo did aganst Tak in Initial D and crashed his ride trying to win no matter what happens

For the sake of www.automotivefourms.com and its street racing section please

NEVER COMPARE REAL RACING TO FUCKING INITAL D

I still call b/s all this guys stories are just ramblings of a sexually confused little man who wishes he wasn't driving a grand prix that is owned by his wife *or 1st cousin depending who you ask* and had his own car. So in his rage to the world makes up stories of tormenting ricers when nothing more this mid 30s year old man *I use that term of man VERY loosly* wants then to be driving a civic and hanging out with 16 year olds buying them beer to fit in.

I'm not a huge fan of the post either, but I've had SRT-4's rev me in my stock Grand Prix GT. Some people just like to race people they know they can beat I guess.

I see the phrase
'Insult to injury'

Goes past most of you.
