sorry I can't be much help, but I've got an '02 and i didn't even know there was a service 4WD indicator. Never seen it or heard of it. You might check your owners manual and see if there is a way to reset this indicator yourself kind of like how you reset your oil change indicator.

The 4wd switch needs replacing, or fixing. I replaced mine 3 years ago and the light went off.

ya the 4wd switch either needs replaced, or you can just pull the switch out and take cleaner made for thoes parts and clean it. I herd of some people doing that and it works.

I pulled my switch out and tried cleaning it and checking for cracked soldering, then when I put it back in the lights would not work. $40 and I got a new switch from a buddy at the garage. No problems since!

I have the same problem with the light coming on periodically in a 1999 sportside. After having it looked at and the differentials flushed, this can be the only solution. Can anyone point me to where the switch is located? I'd like to do it myself. Thanks for the help!

It's the switch to the left of the speedometer that lets you select 2/4/hi/low etc. Cleaning it if it's cracked won't help...just resolder the wire joints...there's like ten of them. It's real easy to remove and repair...I did mine.

Re: Service 4wd indicator, 99 silverado

I just made mine worse by taking it apart. Could not see where there were any solder joints, if there were they were very small and putting a solderin iron to them would just melt the circuit board.

What transfer case 246 or 261?
Before throwing parts at it get it on a eng/tran capable bidirectional scanner and check for codes and check transfer case operation.
They are computer controled just like the engine
The scanner will help work/check out things.
Post back transfer case and any codes you get.
