Top ball joint. Your crown vic has twin I beams? LOL. Jack the truck up by the axle and get about 4 inches of clearence under tire. Slide a 2x4 under tire and lift. Have some one else watching the ball joint for movement. For my money if I were to replace one I would do both on that side and then you would have grease fittings.

Re: Ford Twin I Beam Suspension Ball Joints
They are BOTH "load carrying" joints.

Yes, they are but usually the top goes out first.

Re: Ford Twin I Beam Suspension Ball Joints
Actually, with the "Twin I Beam", the LOWER typically wears out first. With a fleet of E-350s, I am VERY familiar with them.

Not that it matters and not to argue but the I just checked my records and the last 7 fords I did this year all had the top ones bad. Of course these werent all F350s. Some were Explorers and F250 Superdutys. Most were 4x4.

Re: Ford Twin I Beam Suspension Ball Joints
I know the 4x4 front ends use ball joints, but all the twin I Beam front ends I worked on (2 wheel drive, up to '88 ) had king pins, not ball joints. Did they change to ball joints in later years?
