95 Olds Achieva - Dash lights & tail lights quit working

I've been having a problem with my dash lights and tail lights not working. For the past two or so months my dash lights have only been working on and off. They'd work for a few weeks, not for a few weeks, etc etc. All this time I've just kind of been dealing with it. Then earlier tonight I got pulled over and the policeman informed me that my tail lights were not working. The turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights work fine, but nothing else. My stepdad (who knows alot more about cars than I do) checked the fuses and they were all good. He seems to think the switch needs to be replaced. I was hoping someone here might have had this problem before and/or could offer some help, or at least an understanding of what the problem may be. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i read in an earlier post the same story. someone recommended they buy a new switch (stick) by seacrching around on internet. the dealer wants too much. i found one but, forgot the price. my 95 acheiva head lights occasionally go out also. then i turn the lights all the way off and back on and all is ok. sounds like a switch problem!it is a dangerous problem. driving at night on a curve ,etc and lights go out could cause big time accident. let us know if you have luck finding the new switch and installing it if you chose to do so.

Thanks for the help James. Yeah I'm leaning towards the switch being the problem too. I found a switch for a 93 Achieva at a junkyard, but naturally it just barely didn't fit. So I'll keep looking for more junkyards in the area. I tried looking for one on ebay, just at this moment there aren't any listed. Can anyone offer any other good reliable websites where I might could find a used switch? Thanks again.

To get the tail lights working place a fusable link with 5 amp fuse between the tail lmps fuse spot and the empty fuse slot on the right side of the fuse block, just till you can replace the turn signal switch, i got pulled over for the same thing
