Engine Troubles ...

I own a 95 Grand Am se, with 276k's on it, 3.1L v6, and just lately been havin some engine troubles. where as I would start it in the morning, and it won't want to idle, i have to step on the gas for it to keep running, and the engine light will stay on for about 10-15mins, and during that time it wont want to idle. After the engine light goes off, than the car runs fine. I just replaced all plugs and wires ... any input would be great ... thanks. P.S. - this only happens at a cold start.

Re: Engine Troubles ...

I would start at the IAC (idle air control) valve. It acts like a choke used to on a carburetor. It regulates air intake at idle and part throttle. I would also check the EGR valve, as it may be stuck open when the engine is cold, and should be closed until the engine warms up.

Re: Engine Troubles ...

yea, the IAC might be the problem...
I talked to a guy who had pretty much the same problem on a 99GA ... switched it out in 5 or so mins.. worked fine
