Question noise in front end hd2500 4X4

I am hearing a whining noise and feel a rough vibration in the front of my 02 HD2500 4X4, I think it might be a wheel bearing but not sure, the nearest dealer is 165 miles away, is there a quick check I can do to make sure?
Thanks for the help
David

The front diffs on those had issues with noise. Are you hearing it in 4wd or A4wd? If it's in 4wd when you hear it, then it's probably the diff, if it's in 2wd, then it COULD be the bearings. You would want to jack up the front end, with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, and give the front end a good shakedown, and give the wheels a spin to see if you feel any harshness or resistance to spinning, or hear any interesting noises.

This is a basic 4x4 with the shift on the floor, no awd, I hear it in 2wd about 35 to 40 miles an hour, at a cruise condition, it is alot quieter under power and when you let completely of and coast it is quieter, but at steady cruise you hear it whine and rumble pretty good. I have 80550 miles on it. I checked the brakes and they look good.
Thanks for the help.

Could be in the driveshaft as well. U-joints and/or carrier bearing.
