New ignition tumbler, now car won't start. 89 IROC

My old igntion tumbler got stuck in the on position, so I had to replace it.

I bought a new tumber/key set and installed it, but now when I try to start the car, all the accessories get power and the radio comes on, but the car doesn't even try to start.

The battery is okay, but it seems like the starter isn't getting the signal or something.

Also, I was finally able to pry the old key out of the old tumbler and it has a resistor built into the key that this new one doesn't have. Could that have anything to do with it?

It's the Vehicle Anti-Theft system (VATS) the chip in the key has a specific resistance to make sure it's the right key. There is a way to either bypass the system or you can try to set it back up to work again, but I don't know how...

I've got the old key still. I'm going to call a local chevy dealer and see if they can figure out what the resistance is on the old key and have them copy it onto a new key.

Thanks.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. Said I could bring them the old and new key and they'll figure out the code in the resistor from the old key and put into into a new blank key then cut it to match the current tumbler key.

That should gitrdone.
