Jeep Cherokee Sport Door Speakers
In both my 1998 and 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport the speakers in the LF door went dead. In both cases I found a factory splice that went bad. The splice was in the wiring harness that passes through the "boot" from the door to the body. Who ever heard of a splice in an area where the wires flex? I ran a new wire to fix it. I have a copy of the wiring diagram if anyone needs it. Contact me with your fax number.

Man, the same thing happened to our 98 Sport. I had to cut and splice the passenger side speaker. I also have issues with the gas gauge sending unit. ...nice jeep other than that.
I'm still looking for a reply to anyone that swapped the bench seat with one with headrests. |

Great post ....power window problems can also be traced to this part of the harness...you will need to pull on the wires because the break is inside of the insulation. Start by taking the door panel off. |

On the gas gage sending unit...they have new version for that...on my 97XJ, it was recalled by the manufacturer. You are lucky....so far. |

I wish I would have read your report before I just dropped $300 bucks replacing the radio. At both the JEEP dealer and the stereo shop where I eventually ended up said my lack of right door speaker in my 2000 Sport was due to a bad right channel in the original radio unit. JEEP wanted $850 for a new radio with installation. The stereo shop replaced my original unit with a pretty nice Alpine model CDE 9843 that sounds better, but during the install they said they found the right speaker did not work with the new unit. They found that bad wire you speak of and ran a new one. I could have done that myself in a couple of hours for about $0 because I am an audio/visual specialist by trade. I should have known better. tb |

Re: Jeep Cherokee Sport Door Speakers
kinda similiar, but speaker in the rear. The other day I was going to put new speakers in my 98 sport, rear speakers. When I had the radio on and took off the coverings, the passenger speaker did not work. Now, the driver side did work, so I took that speaker off and hooked it up to the wires in the passenger side, but no sound, so I hooked that speaker back to the driver side. So, not a blown speaker for I tested that speaker as well. Do I need to replace all the wiring for the rear speakers to get it to work properly?? That's a lot of wires and time spent gutting the interior to get to the wires.

Re: Jeep Cherokee Sport Door Speakers
For what its worth, I purchased two 01 Cherokees this year and both vehicles had front speaker issues. I also drove many others that vintage and most had speaker issues (as in not working). In my case, both were wiring problems where connections to speakers were bad. I think this was a major problem with these particular vehicles. So just rewire them. That will fix the problem. As long as you're at it with the new wires, you might consider replacing the spearkers as well, as long as you have the door panel off. The speakers themselves are mediocre for sound at best.
Just my .Good Luck! |

Re: Jeep Cherokee Sport Door Speakers
You should not revive a post that is 2 years old. The problem has probably been fixed by now in some way or another.

glad this post was revived. when i bought my 2000 the passenger side front speaker did not work. i decided i wanted to replace the stereo and all four speakers and the passenger side front still does not work, so i figured it was a wire. i think im gonna try to fix it tomorrow. i have actaully heard it work a couple of times and it made a world of difference. thanks

Please pay attention to the posting dates. As Dave said, please don't revive threads long dead. Especially if you have nothing significant to add to them.
If you feel you must, then create a new thread and link the old one in it.
