Unhappy 94 3.1 GP, Radiator Fans Not Working

I read several posts after searching the forums. My fans won't come on even when I turn on the A/C. The coolant temp stays around 210 during normal driving, and climbs between the 210 mark and the last mark before the red zone if I sit at idle. It isn't totally overheating, but I don't want to wait until it does to try to fix it. I suspect the coolant switch might be the culprit, but I'm not sure where exactly it is located and how much of a pain it is to change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: 94 3.1 GP, Radiator Fans Not Working

The switch that turns the fans on does double duty as the computer's coolant temp sensor. It is located in the intake manifold just behind the thermostat housing. It goes into the intake horizontally from the rear, and has a two-wire harness going to it. It is set to turn on at 230 degrees, so what you are experiencing isn't abnormal. If the fans don't come on when the A/C is turned on, you may have a bad relay or a corroded connection at the relay center mounted on the passenger side under the hood.

Thanks for the replies. I pulled out the relays last night and the terminals looked clean. I didn't have a chance to see if moving them around made a difference. Is their an easy way to see if the relays are functioning properly? I hate to start throwing new parts at the problem...

Try switching them, as that worked to determine the problem on my 91 Grand Prix I had. If that doesn't work, try putting direct power to the fans to eliminate them as a possible culprit.
