2001 LHS will not start, shutdown on the road!
I have a 2001 Chrysler LHS 3.5 and as I was driving the car on the highway for about an hour, the car completely shutdown. As I pulled over and attempted to start it again, it wouldn't. A friend who is a interested mechanic was able to determine that it was not the timing belt, he also checked that there is fuel flowing to injectors and power exist on individual coils but no spark.
ODB II scanned code; P0725 Engine Speed Input Circuit Does anybody know what this means? where can this cirucuit be located to replace? |

Re: 2001 LHS will not start, shutdown on the road!
that means your input speed sensor, which is mounted on the drivers side of your transmission on the bellhousing, is either acting up or has failed. Without that input from the sensor, the car would go into limp mode, the transmission defaulting to second gear. I don't see how that would cause a no start, but your transmission will only work now in reverse and second gear. Are there any more codes? It sounds like more codes should pull up like for a crank or cam sensor failure.

Re: Re: 2001 LHS will not start, shutdown on the road!
My brother in law towed the car to autozone to scan codes and that was the only code they were able to retreive, however I think they had a low battery when they scanned it. I am completely charging battery to rescan for codes, hopefully it will be a more accurate diagnosis(scan). I really appreciate your response! Stanby.....

Probably completely non-related, but the security system can prevent a start as well. For example, it will run for 3 seconds when using a key other than the chipped one from Chrysler in the ignition. I also think the security system will completely disable the ignition, as in your case, when it senses a security related issue.

Re: Re: 2001 LHS will not start, shutdown on the road!
We did not get an opportunity to rescan for additional codes because my brother in law had revisted the timing belt and noticed that it had jumped two places. He also noticed that the water pump had severe residue so he is going to replace the water pump and timing belt and readjust timing to specs and hope that was the cause of the instant shutdown. Should know by this weekend! will keep you posted.

I am happy to inform you that my car is back on business, it turned out that the timing belt had skipped four places. I ended up replacing the timing belt and water pump while at it. but the car finally cranked up!

Re: 2001 LHS will not start, shutdown on the road!
Just curious, how many miles on your '01 LHS? I just bought one at the used car lot with 101,000 miles on it and it seems to drive just fine except for one strange issue today. I was sitting at a light with my foot on the brake not even touching the gas and the RPMs surged a bit. I put it in park and it surge a bit higher, pulled it back into drive and it died. After re-starting it reset and went back to normal. Very strange. I know people are reporting issues of the engine cutting out and starting back up while in motion, but I haven't experienced that yet.
