Mapquest involved with GPS

Looks like everyone's favorite site for getting directions is now taking it to the road. I just saw that a Mapquest/TomTom GPS is going on the market.

It looks like it will be very similar to the TomTom 300 model.

hmmm very interesting. I actually like it. Although on the Mapquest site it sells for $699, there are other places where it ranges from $599 through $899.

Re: Mapquest involved with GPS

I certinatly hope that it isn't anything like mapquest's online directions. I find yahoo maps to be the most acurate. I can't count the number of times where mapquest says "turn on local roads" and drive on them for like 10miles!! WTF is that?? Yahoo gives from A-B with every road named and the exact distance. Peace-

No, it is not using Mapquest directions. It will be using the same TeleAtlas software the TomTom 300 and 700 use -- so you should be safe using it

Re: Mapquest involved with GPS

you definitely should get one...they're a life saver. I can't believe how accurate the maps are. I am going to BFE North Carolina this weekned and it picked up the route i needed to take very quickly when I just programmed it in. Apparently tele atlas alos provides maps for Google maps as well.

Yeah, TomTom is really starting to get some attention in the US (from what I've heard, they've always been really big in the UK). I even saw the TomTom 700 featured in an issue of Playboy.

As for my trip to Carolina, the GPS worked great. The TeleAtlas maps were very reliable. My dad was shocked when I woke him up in bed and didnt have to call him find out which beach condo they were staying in. He had never heard of a GPS.
