spark plugs removal

ive seen in the chilton book for my 1997 g prix 3.8l k. that you pull motor forward? how easy is this to do? or is it the only way to get to those back plugs. any ideas without moving motor would help. or even a easy way to move it forward. thanks

You can get to the rear plugs without rocking the engine forward. It's a little tight, but can be done. To rotate the engine forward, you take the two upper mounts between the engine and radiator support, and either pull it forward with ratchet straps, or buy a special tool that bolts where the mounts you removed came from. I have that tool, about $25-$30 at Harbor Freight, and someone would have to pry it from my dead fingers to get it away from me.

I just changed mine out Saturday. Just take the two bolts loose from the front (the engine does not move) and pull on the alternator with your left hand (you don't have to pull very hard). When then engine rocks forward (2-3"), put the passenger side bolt back in and you are ready to go. If you look at the bracket you will see an indentation that shows the bolt was made to be put in that position. The hardest part was the sparkplug on the back side that has the O2 sensor directly behind it. I just used a universal joint on my socket and had no problem. It was real easy to to the whole job. took about 45 minutes. I have a 97 SE with 3.8 engine.

yes, I just did my 98 GTP yesterday without rocking the motor forward...

the rear with the O2 sensor was in fact the most difficult, but I took the O2 sensor out (because it was loose in the first place, so I just took it out while changing the plug, then put it back in tight after completion)... getting the O2 sensor in and out is easier with a crow's foot wrench socket and a long (like 9") extension, btw

I used a universal joint as well - and I think I had to use a 3" extention for the plugs...

its tight, but I got my hands in there (sorry if that sounds a little inappropriate )
