Power window problem
I have a 95 Lumina Sedan. Yesterday, I tried to roll up the drivers side window and it just stopped about 1/4 of the way up. The rest of the windows in the car do not work now, whether I try the drivers side switches or the individual switches. I tested the fuse and it is OK. I also noticed that the little LED that lights up the window switch cluster on the driver's side door does not light up when I turn on the lights. Am I not getting power to this switch? Would this effected the individual power window switches? Any suggestions?

Re: Power window problem
Did you look under the hood and see if there's another maxfuse or something for the windows in the power box by the battery?
I don't remember. I'll go look at mine in a bit. Did you check with a test light and see if it is live at the fuse? Then you'd know if the problem is in the interior or under the hood...

Re: Power window problem
I agree with Jeff, that it sounds like a blown fuse/relay of some sort. Since all power routes through the drivers side "master" switch, it's possible the switch failed and killed everything if the fuses/relays check out.

Re: Re: Power window problem
I think the car is possessed.
After spending 3 days in the rain trying to figure out what the problem is, changing the switch, testing fuses and relays, nothing. I decided to take it to the dealer this morning. I got in the car and decided to try it one last time before I left my driveway.....the windows now work. Last week, one day when I got in it, I tried to start it and nothing happened. No cranking, no clicking. I had good power since my lights were bright. I left it alone and tried it again in the afternoon, it started right up. ( It had rained six days in a row so I am assumimng something got wet to cause this one) I have never had any problems with the car and now 2 things in 2 weeks. Very odd. Anyway thanks for your suggestions. I'll keep them in mind if it should occur again. |

Re: Power window problem
Check the smaller (primary) wires at the starter and verify they are tight and have no corrosion. I never really paid attention to the Lumina's setup, but most cars get the primary power feed for IGNITION FUSED high-amp accesories (power windows, rear defrost) right off the primary ignition feed at the starter. If you have a problem down there, it would explain the starter solenoid refusing to operate also.
It's right down low on the front of the motor where it can get wet. Clean, tighten, and spray with some WD-40 when you get done.

on my 99 LTZ lumina, sometime the contact get dirty/dusty. I take the swithces out of the door, (divers side) and disassemble the switch (acutally very easy to do) and clean the contacts. And the problem goes away.
