aim is being @#*%

so i have had aim for like 6 years now and never had this problem before. my aim won't let me sign in. i've tried restarting my comp, i've tried downloading a new version *i got gaim*still won't work. it goes past the connecting stage, then it gets stuck on stage 2 for regular aim. on gaim, it goes all the way to it's authorized.

idk what's wrong wtih my comp, cuz no one else has this problem connecting and it's not my sn cuz someone else signed in on it on their comp. please help me!

somtimes it just happens. how long has it been going on? mines done
that before and it just took awhile.

6 months..*face pales..jaw drops* i'm on my aim everey night all the time

i'm an aim whore it's been going on for 2 days now..so there's nothing i can do?

I don't know about that, but does anyone know how to disable the website AIM puts up. Sometimes I am in the middle of something and it quite frustrating when the AOL page overtakes the page I am surfing.

do u mean the Today page that pops up when u sign on? cuz yeah that's easy to get rid of

it's under File --> Preferences and then one of the first tabs at the tap there's a page where u can choose to not have the Today/Welcome screen pop up. if my aim worked i'd be able to give u more specific help

thank you, at last someone here agrees, i prefer messenger. i have used aim once in my life an i just dont like it. it's annoying. msn rules, aim sucks. 'nuff said.

MSN is so0o0o0o much better! It never messes up like AIM does.

Now to the problem. How long do you try to sign on? Sometime i have to try 1-8 times before it signs on then it's done. I have cable though so it all happens real quickly...i just keep pressing enter

EDIT: AND YAHOO MESSENGER SUCKS!!!

i like messenger, it actually works. AIM confuses the hell outa me an i just find it annoying, i dont like................any of it.

Try downloading Trillian and see if that will connect to your AIM account. You could have a virus that is affecting AIM or there could be something wrong with the install and you might need to remove it from the registry.

I would agree though, MSN is a much better messenger.

i'm a messenger whore and am on aim, msn and yahoo every day. they all have their pros and cons. i like aim best cuz that's where most of my buddies are, my cam works best on yahoo and msn lets me change my sn to match my mood. oooh and an update on my aim issue: so i was online for like an hour and it randomly signed me in. so that was cool. i turned my comp off and the next day again it woudln't work and then after like 20 minutes it signed me in...so yeah we'll see what happens tonight when i try to get it to work.

just about everyone i know uses msn messenger, in the UK no-one uses aim, i hadn't even heard of it until a few days ago, i really had no clue what aim was.

i still dont like it, the layout, the.......well, everything really. i'll stick to msn, its far easier to use in my opinion, but maybe that's because i haven't really tired to learn how to use aim.
