1993 T-Bird Heater Switch/Blower Motor Problem?
Hi,
My Bird's blower motor has been acting funny the last two months. At the start of all the problems, it came on by itself and would not shut off. It was the end of the summer, and with the heater on I was roasting. I pulled the fuse to shut it off and put it back in when I needed it. I was broke at the time and couldn't afford a trip to the mechanic. A couple of weeks ago, it finally just stopped blowing. I checked the fuse and it's good, and I checked the relays by the battery and they're all good. I figured that it must be the heater switch since it was stuck on, then it was stuck off. I bought a new one, but I can't locate it! I have half the dash apart and the glove box is off, and I haven't seen any part that looks like it. I basically have three questions: 1. Does this sound like a switch or a blower motor malfunction (or even an electronic climate control problem)? 2. Where is this elusive switch and is it a pain to replace? 3. Anybody have any idea what a problem like this would cost to fix with a mechanic who is reasonably priced? Any help at all would be great, as I have been hacking away at this in the cold after twelve hour shifts for a few nights now. Thanks in advance! |

Re: 1993 T-Bird Heater Switch/Blower Motor Problem?
On the main page of this forum above all the threads is a box with Search this forum to the left of it. Type in blower motor and you should get 19 responses. Look for the one that starts out with "This is a good one..." from firemandudeky. I told him how to test the blower circuit. You may get some more good info from that thread and the other threads that come up.

Re: 1993 T-Bird Heater Switch/Blower Motor Problem?
I hope you have corrected this problem by now. For others with the same trouble, it is a thermostat for your automatic climate control that has gone bad. the thermostat is located behind the glove box. Remove the box and you will see the fan motor. On the fan motor, you will notice the thermostat is plugged in with 2 screws. Remove the screws after unplugging the thermostat. Ford will charge you about $150-$175 for a new thermostat. I found one at the salvage yard for $35. I was able to plug it in to see if it worked before I bought it. It's an extremely easy repair. Hope this helps.
