P0753 1-2 Shift Solenoid

I was driving my 98 Silhouette on cruse control when the van droped out of cruse and would not reengage. At the next stop the MIL came on and the van was very slugish away from the stop. I checked for codes with my OBDII decoder and showed a P0753 code which is a 1-2 shift solenoid electrical fault. I cleared the code but it reset again when I shifted into drive, the transmission will not shift into 1st even manually.
The transmission is still under warranty from its replacement at 120K so I have an appointment with the shop to have a look.
My question is what is common to both the cruse control and the solenoid. Has anyone experienced this before?
Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to be informed before I do battle with the shop guy.
Thanks

Re: P0753 1-2 Shift Solenoid

Why go in ready to fight?
Just take it in to them and tell them what it is doing and what you found.
If it is under warranty let the shop fix it.
I am sure a lot of people have had a code 753 which could be a bad solenoid or wiring or even in the pcm.
And it could knock out cruise.
But no sweat no problem I bet it is fixable.

Sorry, I guess "do battle" sounds a little more aggressive than I ment it, but as you know these are always negotiations and having some knowledge is better than saying do whatever it needs.
My mechanic has been in his current location for nearly 50 years and I've been seeing him for nearly 25. I trust him, but as an electroncis technician, I like to know how it works, especially with electrical faults.
See ya
