no heat

Last year my heater went out. The mechanic said that my heating coil was plugged with junk and he cleaned it out. Heat worked fine. Now that winter has returned so has my lack of heat. How do I access the heating coils if that is the problem? Also what would be clogging them?

I had same problem. The mechanic was referring to a clogged heater core. I was able to flush mine myself with a garden hose. You need to access the two connections coming through the firewall on the passenger's side behind where the glovebox would be. Make sure engine is cool first and remove the cap from the overflow to relieve any pressure in system. Disconnect the two hoses, not easy on mine because of the factory clamps holding the hoses but can be done with needlenose pliers. Once hoses removed just spray the water from the garden hose into one of the metal tubes into the heater core. Start slowly because if it's clogged it will spray back at you. Once water flows freely reconnect the hoses you removed. Check your coolant level in the overflow to make sure you aren't low and you should be all set. Good luck...

My heat takes a long time (about 10 min) to get warm. Is this a similar problem to what you two are talking about?

Re: no heat

A good thread to see is mercury sable heat- goes in depth on heat problems and possible solutions.
