I have a 95 Taurus with the 3.8l engine. There are two studs that you put the thermostat housing onto, and then put a nut on both. The housing is off, but the studs were stripped. One stud is off but the other one isn't budging. Are the holes going into the manifold threaded (would it be possible to un-screw the other stud)? It wont move. I've heated it with a torch, used channel locks, vise grips, pliers, and still it wont turn. I've though about just cutting it flat and then re-threading the holes. Any suggestions??

Update:
I drilled a hole in the stud, and used an easy-out while heating it. The sucker came right out and the threads weren't damaged. |
