Hello! I bought a Celica (2001) a few months ago and was told by the dealer that it was a GTS but the paperwork says it is a regular Celica. It is a tiptronic (if that is what it is called, manual and automatic transmission), but there is nothing in the car to give me any clue as to what model it is. For parts ordering and such don't I need to know? I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to tell the difference between models? I appreciate your help!

Re: how do I tell I have gt or gts?..just bought car
well if it is a GTS it should have rear disc brakes, but a real dead give away is check under the hood and look at the engine, does it say VVTL-i ? And is the engine code stamped on it read 2ZZGE, if it does then you have a GTS or a regular with an engine swap. If it's just VVT-i and the engine code reads 1ZZFE you have a GT not a GTS.

Only the GT-S was available with the tiptronic.
PS... You got the slow one.
