I have 135,000 miles. I have replaced the tie rods and ball joints, front rotors, brake pads are fine, alignment and toe in done. There is no vibration until I put on the brakes. at 50 mph and above. Not when you push hard on the brakes but when you gently use them to slow down a little. What else could it be?

Re: 90 535i front end vibration
could be that pads, when you replace the rotors usually you replace the pads at the same time

Having exactly the same problem on my 92 525i. Also getting excessive vibration at around 65 mph. Nobody on the forum seems to know what problem is. If you find out, please let me know...

Re: 90 535i front end vibration
I would say suspension component.
Raise front end of car off of the ground, secure with jack stands on the chassis(NOT SUSPENSION) check for play vertically and horizontally through the tire. Possibly failures, most likely are the upper strut mount, tie rod which is from the upper strut mount and the 2 lower control arm b/js. If the noise is light, the parts are in the early stage of failure so replace them now. |

Re: 90 535i front end vibration
I agree with Aston Jag Tech, I completely cured the same problem after multiple wheel balancing exercises to no avail by replacing the upper and lower control arms on both sides of the car. There was no visible play at the wheel but those big arm mounting bushes dry out with age and perish. Replacing the arms and bushes complete has banished the shakes and transformed the ride.

Re: 90 535i front end vibration
Thanks Aviator,
Yeah it was realatively easy on the 5 series(E34 model) I did a baljoint and complete left side lower control arm on a 92 3-series. His B/J was 100% worn. Serious harazous vibration, wobble at about 70MPH. I hate doing those because you have to press a bushing out and back in. And it has to be exactly in position with the use of special BMW lube so the bushing doesnt pop out. Are you a technician? Scott |
