Question Alternator Question

i own a 2000 grand am se 3.4l and the factory alternator went out on it about a year after we got it, and i was wondering how many amps the factory alternator puts out. also, where is a site that i can order an alternator to fit my car. the only place i have found is www.mralternator.com and that only has 160 amps. thanks.

Re: Alternator Question

Welcome to the forum. The stock alternator is 120 amp; so 160 amps will be fine. I've heard of other GA guys using them off that site too because they big amps, ect. So apparently you shouldn't have any issues. It's just plug and play.

Re: Alternator Question

i think my stock alternator was only 110 amps. But anything above that should provide adiquit juice for ur audio system. 160amps alt is pretty damn big, and way better than stock.

Hey glad to see another grand am owner into car stereo. I recently had a Kicker 800.2 and a Kicker 400.4 in my car. I was running to VRs and I really only seen slight dimming in the lights at long low bass notes. I have seen the 160 alternator in a friends car who runs 3 JL 1000/1's and it seems to be to keep up with all three of those amps.
Hope this helps man.

Re: Alternator Question

I figured that the speakers were 4x6 IE. *Small* and not an actual circle O .. more of an oval 0 and small... someone look into modding the speaker door

Re: Alternator Question

haha, i mean i was gettin out the other night, and i was like, these 4x6's rnt cuttin it. and i remember takin my door off to do some interior painting and seeing that it could be removed. im probilly getting an infinity component set for christmas (im too cheap to spend my money, and its still october, lol). im gonna end up fiberglassing the 2 sails in order to put the tweeter up there and i need to put the mid-bass component down there without buyin a q-logic kickpannel. hmmm tho. think about it and let me kno if n e one can find ap icture of inside the door.

Re: Re: Alternator Question

Hey its me again,

I have seen many grand ams that have done this before. I know for sure that it can be done and I can only believe that it wasn't that hard considering some of the people Ive seen that have done it. With a little work i know it can fit and that the window and everything can operate without any problems.
Now the only problems is with everything else falling apart. Its funny the rattles that can occur when you put a tremendous amount of bass into a grand am.
Good luck man. Let me know how it goes if you take that route!!
