The temperture gauge on my 95 Villager is going all the way up to the hottest point. Sometimes it's ok, and sometimes it goes up and then there is no heat in the van when that happens. There are no leaks and the radiator is full. Eight months ago when this happened I changed the thermostat (A miserable job that was made worse by the fact that the haynes manual showed the thermostat going in upside down, so I had to do the job twice.) Is there any thing else it could be since the stat was changed less than a year ago although I do have the same symtoms. Thanks in advance.

Re: Another thermostat???
Water pump, bad thermostat, brocken gauge etc. Start with the basic when it goes hot open the hood and check it. DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP.

Re: Another thermostat???
Take the stat out again. Place it in a pan of water and bring it to the boil. The stat should open - you should be able to see it opening - shortly before the water boils. Waxstats fail closed, alcohol types fail open.
However, there's a clue in your post: you say there's no heat in the van when the temp goes high. I'll bet it's the water pump. The pump has to drive water through the heater matrix, too, so it's likely that you need to change the water pump. |

Re: Another thermostat???
One thing that has to be done after changing the stat. is to bleed all the air out of the system. Your haynes manual will tell you how to do this. If not done it will do what you are saying
