Need help replacing power steering pump

Greetings AutoMotive Forums:

I have a 1992 Dodge Stealth, R/T Turbo DOHC. It has 120,000 miles on it. I got it from a friend who had it sitting, exposed to the outside elements for about a year and a half in his drive way. He said it was leaking power steering fluid (The steering turns hard when the car is idle. When the steering wheel is turned all the way clockwise or counterclockwise a bird chirping type sound is heard). I found it was leaking engine oil from the oil cooler lines, which splattered oil all over the drivers side front engine compartment. PepBoys replaced the lines for me and the mechanic also said it was oil on the power steering pulley and belt which was causing a schreeching noise. He cleaned out the compartment of the excess oil and tightened the power steering tension pully. Yet it still is hard to turn. I think it needs a power steering pump. I have had several mechanics says it more than likely is the power steering pump. I purchased a used one with 45,000 miles on it. Does anyone know of a web page I could refer to to change the pump?

Thank you. Have a blessed day.
Aubrey

well that explains how to change the belts. So I'd assume, once all that is done, you could jsut unbolt the actual pump and replace it and go from there, but I have no direct experience with this, so I'm only guessing. Hopefully, somebody else can be of more help.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Greetings Igovert500:
I jacked up the car. Removed the driver's side wheel, front splash, driver's side engine room side cover. I could reach and see the bottom 14 MM bolt of the pump. Butt I could only (akwardly) feel the top bolt and a bolt connecting what looks like a valve (where fluid flows to or from the pump. I couldn't reach the bolts to effectively remove them. I could possibly remove them from below. But I doubt (blindly) replace them. I went through the top. First removing the A/C suction hose, then the cruise control box, then a hose from the power steering pump, which runs above the pump pully, I had to stop because I didn't have any plastic and rubber bands on hand to stop the fluid from flowing out the bottom connection and I ran out of sunlight. In order for me to reach the pump from above it appears I have to move to power steering fluid reservoir out of the way. Does any one have tips on how to do this procedure? I would appreciate any help.
