Question 1999-2000 Jetta's

Hi all

I'm looking to buy a 99-00 Jetta and was wondering about the reliability of the car, if they have had any major problems with the car and stuff like that.

I just want to hear the good and bad stories owners have gone through so i know what to expect if i decide to buy one, cause i've never owned a Volkwagon before.

Anyways any advice would be great!!! Thanks in advance.

This may be the best advice any one has iven you. Stay the hell away from 99-..... because vws reliability for the jetta after 98 has gone down the drain. 90-98 will last for ever and rarely give you any serious trouble. They are built tough. If you are interested in a later model vw, go with the passat, the 99 beyond on those are very reliable. just as tough if not tougher than a3 jettas. also vw has a very bad dealership.

Re: 1999-2000 Jetta's

I dissagree with the reliability of the mkIV jetta being awful. I'll grant you the older jetta's are tanks, as are the rest of the vw line. The newer VW's also have tremendous durability, long life, and a lot more as far as creature comforts go. My 2000 Jetta VR6 has almost 200,000 miles on it and it's still treating me very well. All cars will require maintaince, and all cars have parts that wear out and break. If you maintain yours (whatever you get) as best you can, it will take care of you in return. Each model has it's strong and weak points, they all seem to be about equal... but ask anyone in here and they'll all say their model is the one with all the problems (keep in mind everyone is here cuz something is broken and they don't know how to fix it)
