1997 plymouth neon expresso vs kia spectra 5

i'm driving down the road today and i was on my way to wal-mart in my 1997 plymouth neon and the light turns red. Then a punk pulls up besides me in his "new" kia spectra 5 and drifts it back and fourth revving the engine, showing me it was a standard, my car is a automatic, i was watching the other light turn yellow for the other cars to stop and he yells out the window and says american cars are junk, his girlfriend telling him to shut up in his car, that pissed me off, i popped my car in nuetral and gave it a redline rev and put it back into drive, so i reached down to turn my traction control off to make this a fun race, he revved his engine and he was bouncing off his rev limiter and i was watching the other light turn red, i stepped on the brake and gas at the same time, my tach read 2,000 for takeoff, finally our light turned green and mine and his car took off, i was manually shifting my car for better acceleration, i let mine go to 5800 rpm and i shifted, he nailed 2nd, i looked down at my spedo and 20, 30, 40, 50 came buy we were side by side and we went flying past a cheering crowd, i shifted to 3rd and he hit 4th, i then looked at my spedo again and it read 75 and i was pulling him, my neon was pulling him, unbelievably i looked over and he was in amazement, i then seen we were up to 100 and i knew my governer would be kicking in soon, but i was a car length ahead of him now and i knew i won the race, i then backed off at 110 and slowed down and pulled into wal-marts parking lot, i pulled into my parking space and parked and got out of my car and he pulled up beside me and got out and said what the hell are you runnin, nitrous, i then looked at him and opened the hood and when he seen a single overhead cam 16-v 4 cylinder beat him his girlfriend sitting in the car started laughing at him and said you got punked by a neon, i then shut my hood, and he stomped to his car and slammed the door and tried to squeal the tires pulling away, i then went to wal-mart.......dont ever underestimate another car, because you could be the one that gets punked!

Single cam... 16 valve?

So, it's still got 4 valves per cylinder with a single cam?

In developing their 2.0L engine for the Neon, Chrysler experimented with both single overhead cam and dual overhead cam designs and offered both in their Neons until '99. Both engines had 4 valves per cylinder and identical engine blocks. As it turned out, the only advantage to the dual overhead cam design was that the drivetrain geometry offered a slightly higher redline. Other than that, they were able to achieve the same performance from the single overhead cam design as they did from the dual overhead cam design, but since the simpler design of the single overhead cam engine made it both cheaper and more reliable, they dropped the dual overhead cam engine and offered a high octane version of their single overhead cam 16 valve engine in later Neons.

This proves that the better performance from twin cam engines doesn't come from the fact that they have twin cams, but rather that they have four valves per cylinder. But twin cam sells and is a great marketing tool and sounds way better to the marketing guys than four valves per cylinder.

this guy is just playing with us guys. He wrote it as a classical ricer on purpose. the neutral drop, the manual shifting on a auto, the cheering crowd lined along the street, the nitrous. its a fake.

Although there was no neutral drop (at least from what I could read), what made it obvious to me was when he said he disabled traction control and then later said he shifted into 4th on his ATX Neon. In '97, the Penalty Box did not have traction control even as an option, nor did it have a 4th gear...just a 3 speed automatic is all it needed to remain competitive with the Geo Metro. In fact, from behind, the '97 Neon and Geo Metro sedan are nearly identical in appearances.
