Tranny problems

I have a quick question.... what would make an A/T shift real hard from 1st gear to 2nd gear? it is only the 2nd gear that makes my car jolt back... has this happen to anyone before and what did you do? It is only when i am accelerating slowly or just normal aceleration... but when i press the pedal a little harder ( not flooring it) it doesn't shift hard at 2nd gear... I am wondering also if my 91 talon TSI needs the mitsu ATF.... I bought Muilti-vehicle ATF and im just wondering if the car is coughing due to non mitsu fluid? thanks for the input, Aaron

Improperly adjusted throttle linkage, or shift linkage could also cause a problem.

Re: Tranny problems

well i posted this problem on dsmtalk... and a guy said that it could be to a shotty tranny mount.... i just don't see how that would make a difference in only 1st to 2nd shifting...

Re: Tranny problems

Was your car doing that before at all? You and my genius brother probably messed something up. Check the mounts, I think the 1-2 transition is the hardest and that's why it would be more noticable. Or you guys left something in the transmission.

Re: Tranny problems

internal or the external shift sensor could be the problem. The external one went out on a 99, the car would not move from first to second on its own in drive but you could force it to by putting it in low gear and move to drive skipping second altogether.Think the entire bill at the dealer was around 160.00 but I honestly think you could do it yourself. At that time I wasnt that familiar with the car ( belongs to my son) now that I am Im sure I could have put it on , but chk that first ( the external sensor) it could very well be the prob.

I have a similar problem. Mine shifts hard from 2 to 3. It doesn't doo it all the time either. When I have O/D on and I stop at a light, sometime's I'll feel the car smack a bit(like a punch). And again this doesn't happen everytime either. It's kind of annoying though becuase I'd like to mod this car a bit more and this just ruins my desire. I don't have money to rebuild the tranny or do expensive work. I dont have any experience with them either. Let me know how it goes.
