Cleaning CD player?
The factory CD player in my '99 Caddy (Delphi/Bose) used to just skip periodically, but has gotten to point now that it pretty much skips constantly. I tried a CD disc cleaner that is supposedly made for car players, but that only helped a little. Is there anything else I can do myself to try to remedy this, or is it better left up to a professional? Could it be something other than just the player being dirty?

yea, what normally happens is the bearing in the drive motor gets dirty. The motor can't keep the CD spinning fast enough to supply the bit stream the DAC is looking for, so it "chirps" because of the drop out errors, just like when it skips.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to clean the drive motor bearing without removing the unit from the dash?
