I changed my brothers brakes today on his 99 GMC Sonoma (American Edition). lol. I've never changed brake before in my life. Ill pull an engine, but I wont touch brakes. Until today. I pulled off the 2 bolts, and pulled the whole caliper off the rotor. Putting it all back all good and all, I have a question.
People usually talk about bleeding the brakes when they done. I didn't have anything like that. I kept the brake line on the caliper. I pumped the brakes when everything was installed, and they worked when pulling into the garage. Did I do something wrong? Also, do I have to take off both bolts on the calipers?

Re: Brake Qurstions
Nope nothing wrong assuming you just replaced the pads.
Did you use any lubricant when you put the old plates on the new brake pads (if you changed the pads that is?)

Re: Brake Qurstions
Yeah. Was I supposed to use alot? I laid alot on the one, and the other one I was kinda generous with.

Re: Brake Qurstions
The only thing I have been advised of in the past, is to be careful when compressing the caliper piston on cars with ABS.
Most people recommend that you open the bleeder valve when you compress the piston so the excess fluid exits the system that way, instead of being forced back through the ABS unit.
