Question Lots Of Noise Coming From my Head ex Pinging, Ticking

ive got a 88 crx si and recently blew i hole in the side of it with one of my rods. so i got a block from a 92 dx and used my head from the 88 si. ive got it all back together now and the things is pinging and ticking like crazy ive been reading all the other threads and there are things about timing and setting the valves and what not. IVE DONE IT ALL. ive completely re-Timed the thing at least 20 times just to make sure it was right. and still the super loud ticking. its definatly coming from the head. it does it all the time even when it idles and just ticks faster when i accelerate. ive put about $800 rebuilding the block and head. and now this. and also i just recently put a new dist cap and rotor in and i went back in to check them and the rotor was completely melted and driping. please somebody give me some advise other then the timing being off or the valves not being spaced right. oh yeah definernt grade gas does nothing!

Need to adjust the rocker arms to the correct valve lash.

Also, did you check to see if your valves were bent when you had the head off?

Re: Lots Of Noise Coming From my Head ex Pinging, Ticking

Is the head overheating due to lack of oil or coolant? GL

the block has nothing to do with it. you can use a block from a 99 and it wouldnt matter. anyways, with as much as youre spending on that motor, you might as well consider a different one all together.

a block from a 99 has the crank sensor in it. the obd0 does not.

then why when using a 92+ head and a 88-91 block you have have to use a adj. cam gear?

Re: Lots Of Noise Coming From my Head ex Pinging, Ticking

do you have oil pressure ? take the valve cover off and start the engine, you should see oil flying around, if you dont then your head isnt getting oil or you got no oil pressure.

i would figure out why your rotor melted, i mean it must be pretty hot to melt your rotor. ignition coil or igniter getting really hot ?
