i have an 1989 black iroc-z and had to change the steering column the only thing i could find was I bought anf 1986 iroc-z which fit but had an extra wire from my old column it was a little orange surrounded 2 small like 24 ga. wires and was wondering what it was to i think it is to the VATS due to reading one or your post from this site but... my old key had the little resistor in it this one doesn't is there anything I can do to go around this can I just get the resistance and plug a resistor into the connector under the car?? Well any hep with help thanks Camaro lover for life.....

Yea...measure the resistance of the chip in the key and plug in a resistor from Radio Shack or something into the wire that feeds the VATS part of the computer...should read like the key is there.
