Front 4X4 diff. seal
I need to know how to replace the seal. The one x-fer case to the front of the axle part. Its the seal around the u joint. Can it be replace from the outside or does the hole 4X4 diff. have to come off.

Re: Front 4X4 diff. seal
you have to remove the driveshaft and pry out the old seal. the new one needs to be tapped in verry carefully as not to distort it's round shape in order to seal good. put some grease around shaft when sliding it over. a piece of pipe the diameter of the seal to tap it in with works good

Re: Front 4X4 diff. seal
fill plug is a pipe type plug with either a 3/8" square inny or outty. the outty you can put a ratchet extention into it. the other either requires a square socket or if you can get a wrench on it. the drain is to remove the cover!!! you can clean out old gear lube with carb cleanner and replace with new gear lube depending on your climate. your owners manual will specify what type to use.
