Newbie: 1999 1500 LT Suburban wont start

Plenty of battery, plenty of starter turnover, but just get a little catch of firing up, then dies out. Never really gets going. It would seem logical to consider a fuel pump, but are there other considerations as well?

I have an Actron Pocket Scan for emissions, but I doubt this will help diagnose.

The fuel pump is quite expensive, so before replacing it I want to check other options.

I'll answer other questions if you have them.

Nathan

First option check for spark.
Second option check for fuel pressure.
Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and post back fuel pressure.
Also what engine and engine code and mileage?

Re: Re: Newbie: 1999 1500 LT Suburban wont start

I did not answer because the Suburban started Okay one day. But now, 2 months later, its happened again. Tries to catch, catches for a second, then stops.

The car is a 5.7 liter 1500 LT, 1999 Suburban.

What do you mean by "engine code"? Is this the OBD-II tester?

Re: Newbie: 1999 1500 LT Suburban wont start

Engine code is your 8 digit in vin no.
Go over the 3 options I posted you in my first post.

Hard to start cold.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.
Post back fuel pressure readings.
