The drivers side CV axle was replaced 2 mnths ago, then yesterday, I was changing my engine oil & tranny oil, then noticed the same axle was exposed. The outter boot rubber end where it clamps to the boot slid off, and grease came out.
Am I doing something wrong here? I changed the first time and the second time. Or is it just defective boots? Its under warranty got it from Autozone. This is only on the driver side. The other side everything is still factory and working find! What would cause this?

Re: 2nd CV axle in 2 months
Another cheap remanufactured part from Mexico. That is what they call the Auto Zone special! Take it back and you might find one in six, that will last a few months. If it were me, I would get a refund Auto Zone and pay the difference for one at NAPA. If you consider your labor worth anything, you will come out cheaper over the long haul.

If you put another boot on make sure you get the good clamps that require the special crimping pliers and the surface where the boot goes on the joint is free from grease. Regards Dan |

But its was a whole new axle I put on there twice! I have under warranty, so maybe the new one wont be messed up. I will have to inspect it at the store. |
