brake problem!!!!!!!
hi,
l got a 97 formula. l told you about my brakes before. but it is still the same. l took the car pontiac dealer and l told them, fix the brakes. other day they called me, and they said that they needed to machine the rotors and replace the pads, thats all. and l told them, do it. they fixed it and l went and l took the car. my rotors were all messy, and they really fixed it, they were smooth and they replcaced original, firebird brake pads. l asked them, how about caliper? they said it is fine, l asked, how about master cylinder? they said it is fine too, and l asked, how about booster, they said it was fine too and they made me test it. they said, hit the braaake, and now start the car, if the brakes goes down, that means you got a good booster. and mine was fine. but l still cant stop my car. l got ABS, but my car never slips.. even all ABS are slipping not like normal but they slip too. but mine, no!!!! yesterday, l couldnt stop the car, at the light and l had to run red lights. l m glad l am safe. when it is raining, that time, my car slips just a little bit, my car never slips when l am fast, it slips, when l am about to stop, that time, (SOMETIMES) it slips.. it is not safe.. do you guys have the same? l mean firebirds re like that?? how about ABS? how does it works?? on mine, you do not feel ABS at all.. on the pedal and on the wheels. you do not feel. could you please help me about this?? thank you.. Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
You shouldn't feel ABS unless you lock the brakes up.
If they are locking up and the ABS isn't stopping them from locking up, something is up with the ABS system. You should feel it lock up, then kinda hop a little. That is the ABS making sure you don't keep the brakes locked up. Most of the time, I can't get my ABS to work unless I REALLY slam the brakes.

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
l understand.
but sometimes l take my car to a free road and go little bit fast (50mph) then immediately hit the brake (just for testing) but my car doesnt slips or stops real quick. when you hit the brake immediately, you soppose to feel abs l guess. but my car doesnt doing anything. also, it takes a long time to stop. what could the problem be?? lets say that my ABS system is broken, then my tires soppose to slip whenever l hit the brake immediately, but NO!!!! it never slips, and takes a long time to stop. ( I ALWAYS HIT THE BRAKE, ALL THE WAY DOWN AND IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO STOP AND NEVER SLIPS OR FEEL ABS) I WONDER WHAT IS IT!!! |

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
Low fluid?
Not bled properly maybe?? Does the pedal go down to the floor when this happens?? Could be a vacuum leak.

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
fluid is full!!
yes, l hit the brake all the way down. my brake is a little bit hard but it doesnt matter, because l can push it all the way down, and l got a good booster. when l hit the brake real hard, it goes till to the floor. but the car doesnt stop.. if l keep driving, l will have an accident for sure. man, about fluid, it is fine, but others, you might be right.. l have no idea. by the way, l have nothing to do, because pontiac dealer says that l am fine. now what am l soppose to do?? thank you very much... |

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
Sounds to me like there might be some air in the lines from when they did the brakes.
I would recommend taking it back to the dealer and telling them you are having pedal pressure issues and you would like them to re-bleed the brake lines. They should start at the furthest wheel and work their way to the closest one. What happens is that you get air in your lines sometimes when doing the brake pads. This depends on how they did the brakes. Either that...there is a minor minor leak somewhere.

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
I checked it man. Thanks for the offer, but I don't know anyone looking for one right now.
If something comes up I will talk to you about it. Good luck with the brakes!

Re: brake problem!!!!!!!
Most def. check lines. Most probable culprit being the rubber lines right b4 calipers. They degrade from inside and appear to be prefect and give symptoms you describe. Sounds like your stopping w/ only 1 or 2 of your tires. Revmove rubber lines 1 @ a time and try to blow or look through them. If you had slow leak you'd notice fluid level going down.
