Wheel setback
01 Golf 97K I just purchased pulls left. Get alignment tech says setback on drivers side 1 inch back of passenger. Whadyahit?. Nada. Carfax was clean ,cant see any repaired damages yet you can fit 3 fingers between the rear of the drivers front wheel and the well and 4 on the passenger side. Real man sausage sized fingers- got 2be an inch. Not pulling now but concerned that drive line may be effected. Is this normal or should I replace componets and if so which ones. VW says no recalls for my VIN

Sounds like a bent lower control arm or spindle... really the only thing that would cause that much movement.

Lower Control arm seems to be cast aluminum or steel. Can easily see the casting ridge- that line where the 2 sides of the mold are joined when cast . I didnt think one could bend a cast part- that they crack instead. I really have to get under it to check more thoroughly where the lower arm joins the chassis to see whether or not the bushings and holders show any damage or distortion. I doubt the bent spindle because alignment would be impossible. I have no pull with the steering straight now. Do you know if both sides have the same angles on the stut towers ,the bushings to chassis, and the lower contol arms.
