'95 EX sounds like a diesel
My '95 Accord 4 cyl. EX sounds like a diesel when it idles. It's got 157,000 miles on it now. I bought it with 90,000, and it sounded like a diesel then too. I've had the valve lash adjusted at 30k mile intervals, it sounds the same before and after the service. I've run thick and thin oils in it, to no effect. The idle sounds the same hot or cold.
Does anybody else have a car of this vintage that does this? Is this normal for these cars? Any ideas on why it sounds like this? Thanks in advance!

have you check your exhaust? you may have a whole burned in your cat. converter which may cause this sound

I know a guy with this same car who just replaced his entire exhaust system, and his car still sounds bad at idle. But on the other hand, his car isn't my car. Next time I'm under it, I'll check the exhaust system end to end.
I had the hood popped last night, and was really trying to listen to where the sound was coming from. I didn't have a stethoscope or anything, but it sounds like its coming from the bottom of the engine/engine compartment. I just hope its not the sound of a worn engine...

idk, but what you can do is if you have a carb. engine buy some carb cleaner and clean teh carb, if you have inject. then buy 2 bottles of injector cleaner and use one bottle next time you fill up, then another bottle after that, if that doesnt help then you have a mechanical problem, good way to check is take your spark plug out, and see if it has any damage, make sure the gapping is to stock standards

Umm, russiankid. Its a 95 - LONG after Honda stopped putting carb motors in Accords!
Slow down and smell the roses, kid - you've still got some learning to do.

I've run plenty of fuel injector cleaner through this thing, it doesn't make any difference. I only use Top Tier gas, so I can't imagine I get too much buildup. My plugs currently have 27k miles on them, due for replacement in 3k. I pulled them today, they're a little whiter than I'd like, but there's no damage or anything. Gap has widened a little bit, but changing plugs hasn't helped the sound in the past...
I'd really love to figure out what the problem is! Could the engine running a little lean cause rough idle? Any other ideas? I'd love to hear them.

you said you purchased it like this...you may want to asked (if you can still get in contact w/ the previous owner) how the car was maintained by the previous owner. it was bought at 90k...so they SHOULD OF done a timing belt & water pump job. if the timing was done...could be that it wasn't done correctly...and you are experiencing valve slapping. even if you adjust the valve lash correctly...you can still get slapping/ticking sound if the timing is off. I would check the obvious things first. exhaust leaks...that may case a sputtering sounds; pulley...if you have the time...pull your drive belts off one by one and start the car...see if the sound goes away; now that you have the belts off...you should go ahead and check the timing.
