my rear end

not my butt on my car. I have an 85 LS camaro that had a 2.8L in it and instead of rebuilding that piece i put a rebuilt 350 with a 4 barrel carb in it.The only problem i had was i had to grind off some steel bars on the engine mounts. No problem. But now I have to get a new hood because i cant put the breater on but more important everyone tells me i have to replace the rear end too. Otherwise the first time i stomp it ill blow out the rear end. Now Im only 17 and ive done everything bymyself so far (pulling 2.8 out, putting 350 in,wiring it up , and getting it running) and that was no proplem. but i dont know anything onrear ends and i want to know what to put in it that will last through my crap but not something for a wheelie car thats going to kill me on gas. And is this going to be a pain to replace.

Re: my rear end

you basically need a better or larger gear combo to make it work, v8 engines had atleat a 2.73 to 1 gear ratio in them, i had a better explanation but some how some jacki chan chit popped up, i'm confuded.

Re: my rear end

As long as you dont put real sticky tires in the back you should still be able to drive around just fine. If you just have the regular 225's or 235's all you will do is spin the one wheel. Your going to want to upgrade eventually. But like 97camaro said just get a 4th gen rear off of a wrecked camaro take it to a shop have it gone through(fluid change etc.) and stick that in your car. You can get them real cheap.

For the 3.42's u would have to find an M6 LT1 4th gen, other wise u might get stuck with 3.23's or 2.73's.

Re: my rear end

well call a good junkyard and say LT1 rear and specify which gears, they should be able to do you right on that

Re: my rear end

Like 97 said, get an LT1 rear, you won't regret it. One of the best mods that i have ever done. Got better braking due to disk, a new set of gears and new posi (i got really lucky). From a dig the car was magnificent.
