1998 remote cd player

This is my first question. I just joined. Great to be here and great to have such a beautiful van.

My question is about the remote cd player, can I swap the standard cd player for a computer cd player and if I can adapt the connections, will I be able to listen to recorded mp3'sor even recorded regular cd's.
The way it is now, I can't even listen to copies of cd's I've made from the original compilations at home even in .CDA format.

Appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks,

John

Re: 1998 remote cd player

What do you mean by "remote cd player"? Do you have the WB edition? My 98 Montana's standard radio/CD player plays CD-Rs without issue, but they have to be burned as an Audio CD. You can't burn them as a data CD. The ability to play MP3 are going to be impossible to upgrade to by swapping a drive. You would have to replace the entire head unit as that is what does the computations, not the drive itself.

Okay, that probably answers my question.
No, I don't have the WB edition, but the remote cd player is located close to the groud below the radio, There is a storage compartment for cd's and tapes and that's where the cd player is.
I was under the impression that the player did all the translation for the format of the cd, and the cd I tried is in cd format. Maybe I just didn't record it properly or something. I'll try again.

Thanks again.

Yeah...there is little chance that anything would work except the same factory equipment. I'd take the CD player and try playing it in a boombox or a dedicated CD player. Have you tried a commercial CD?
