Question Which one is faster

Which is faster the 4.8L or 5.7L? And how close of a race would it be? Cause i've rode in a co-workers 4.8L Silverado and my truck feels faster. JW which one is really faster.

Obvioulsy a 350 would be a little more powerful than the 294, but i've heard mixed reviews. One guy said his 4.8 was faster than any 350 truck that he's had.

Well, it really is apples and oranges... the complete induction system and heads are different. The 4.8L MAY be faster than an older carbureted or TB injected 350, especially a post-1981 engine. The more accurate test would be to get a 5.7L LT1 (which has a VERY similar induction system, so much that many parts are interchangeable) against a 4.8L, and the LT1 would stomp the shit out of the 4.8L

The engines would be a 4.8L and a 97 5.7L vortec and the trucks are both single cab, the 5.7 is regular short bed, and the 4.8L is step side

I've raced an LT1 with my 4.8 and it only beat me by about 1.5 to 2 car lengths. But it's also had the hell driven out of it. Which reminds me; Could you but an LS1 intake on a silverado? Or something of that sort?

I'm pretty sure they are interchangeable, but I dunno if you would gain anything.

You can, but I was told at www.performancetrucks.net that our intakes flow better than the LS1 due to the fact that we have more room under the hood to allow for more proper flow. While the vettes/camaros all had clearance issuses, so their intakes are compromised.
...So I've heard.

Re: Which one is faster

I say my 2000 vortec 4.8 is faster than my 1996 vortec 5.7 was for sure and that one had a fair bit of snap to it too. Both trucks are pretty well the same , ext cab shortbox, dual exhaust and intake, drop in filter only on the 96 though. I know for sure my Silverado is faster than stock, i had an identical truck like mine pull up beside me at a light last week but it was all stock tires , exhaust ect. He looked my truck up and down and when the light went green we went for it, by only about a half a block he was easily 2.5 to 3 truck lengths behind me lol. Next light he pulls up beside me and said, " i thought the 4x4 model had a 4.8 in it not a 5.3 ??" I told him i don't know about that for sure but i do have a 4.8 but he did not believe me , so when the light went green , i kicked his ass again.
