I have a v6 2000 Grandam GT. Its leaking coolant. I replaced the hoses last night, but that did not solve the problem. Normaly I can find the leak, this time I am having a hard time. It is leaking somewhere underneath where the serpanteen belt is because the belt is carring the fluid up towards the hoses, and thats why i thought the hoses where bad. Whats down there, that needs to be replaced. I hope its something simple and NOT the (LIM).
Please help. TOny |

Re: 2000 GA leaking coolant
welcome to the club, my coolant is leaking as well but mine evaps on something hot before touching the ground IE. Steam in the cold mornings on my way to school. I've had my hoses replaced, new coolant put in... refilled... no visible leaks... I was told to go buy some stuff at like advanced auto parts .. something.. bar stop iono, but it costs like $3 .. and u just follow up instructions of when to put it in.. weather if its dex-cool type or something and.. pretty much it goes in and fills in the leaks with melted bits of Lead... Might help, but you seem to know what you're talking about

Re: 2000 GA leaking coolant
Welcome to the forum. Either water pump, or LIM.

Re: Re: 2000 GA leaking coolant
I found out what it was. First, i went to the library and got a book on the grand am about the water pump. VERY EASY TO INSTALL. I then went to a autoshop. It cost 23.00 for them to tell me what was wrong with the car(I didnt want to replace something that was not the problem). It took me 1 hour to install the new pump. I saved over 250.00. Pump was only 19.00. unlike older cars when the water pump goes there is water all over the place. The new cars like the 2000 grand am has a drain hole in it. When the seal breaks it just leaks out of it. That is why i was confused on what it was. SO if your grand am is a v6. it will be easy to install. I think its a little harder if its only a v4.

Re: 2000 GA leaking coolant
Today is the day I try out the Bar's stop leak stuff for coolant... I've looked around and alot of people arent exactly happy with the end results.. ie. cloggage in the coolant lines... = less flow, more heat =\ .. I have a quote.
