Door doesn't close flush

Can someone tell me how to adjust the door hinges on my 96 Riviera? My driver's side door doesn't close flush with the car and leaves just enough gap that air whistles through the window and drives me nuts!

if the car wasnt hit to cause an alignment problem.. the hinge or hinge pins are probably worn out

plathegame,
Even if the door isn't sagging? It just doesn't close tight against the car. Thanks for your help.

Re: Door doesn't close flush

is the gap at the top of the window or the door itself?

Re: Re: Door doesn't close flush

The gap on the window is along the top back part of the window and down along the back side of the window....which is why I was thinking maybe it was more to do with the way the door was closing, because when you close the door, it sticks out from the car maybe about 1/8 inch along the back side. If I run my car thru a car wash, water will squirt in along the top back 4 or 5 inches of the window. I thought at first the seal was just worn out on the inside of the door, and maybe that is the problem, but even though my car is a '96, it's always been garage-kept, so I wasn't so sure. Plus the fact that the door isn't closing smooth against the car. But, I'm a woman, what do I know?! Just thought I'd try adjusting the door before I spent $200 on replacing the seal.

Good news!! I just checked out exact same problem on my 98 I just bought and found it to be the door catch. This is the metal u-shaped post sticking out on the inside edge of the door frame opening. It has two Torx 40 head (star-shaped) bolts that you can loosen, and move slightly inward to compensate for the amout the latch may have worn. I slid mine in about 1/8" or so, tightened it up and it is as good as new. Good luck!

Unhappy Re: Re: Re: Re: Door doesn't close flush

It sounded good, but, mine has no room for adjustment. It just has the hole for the bolt on the door frame, no way to move it in any. Thanks for the help though.
