TiVo

alright, so a family friend gave us his old TiVo system. it still works and everything, but he got a new one. he has a directTV subscription. since i live in the dorms at my college, a cable subscription with HBO is included in the dorm cost, i was wondering if i can hook up this old system and be able to use it with the cable from the dorms? i have really no clue how TiVo works, since i've never had satellite or cable in my life until i moved into the dorms. basically i want to be able to use the TiVo system while i'm not in my room. any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I just recently gave my Tivo to my mom since I now have DVR with HDTV.

You should be able to go into the options and reset all the settings. You will get to a point where you pick what cable service you have (depending on where you live there could be several different ones). You;ll want to find the settings where the channels listed match up with yours as closely as possible. The whole setup process takes about 2 hours. If I were you, I would try to find the option that lets you reset the whole system, that way you'll get a good step by step that will help you know what is going on.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Re: TiVo

alright, i'll try it tonight and let you know. my main concern was whether i would need an access card or anything, seeing how it came from a place with satellite and it's moving to cable. guess there's no difference?
