hard start 98 blazer
I have a 98 blazer (4.3L), the problem is when i go to start it "cold" i pretty much have to crank for a little bit wait and then crank it agian (otherwise it would be cranking for awhile) and even on the second time it takes awhile to start, when its only been sittin for a few hours i usally only have to turn the key to crank once but i have to hold for a bit. Yes, I do wait for the fuel pump to stop whinning before I try to start it. It doesn't stall out and after it starts it idles and runs fine.
I did some searches, I found some similar problems, one was something with the fuel pump not holding pressure after the car is shut off. It sounds like it could be that but i really have no idea. Are there any common problems with blazers that would cause this? |

Re: hard start 98 blazer
Lets start with the obvious things first, When was the last time you had a COMPLETE TUNE UP on your truck? List exactly what that tune up consisted of? How many miles on your truck? Was it always hard to start or did this recently become a problem? Fuel filter changed lately, if so when?

Re: hard start 98 blazer
The first thing to do would be to make sure that your battery is good and fully charged, and then test the fuel pressure.
Low fuel pressure is the main cause of hard starts. There's more info here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ght=hard+start EDIT: sorry DINO55 I'm not trying to step on your toes, you replied while I was typing mine. |

Re: hard start 98 blazer
No special tools needed, I use two open end wrenches when I change mine.

Re: hard start 98 blazer
After changing the fuel filter and checking the starter and battery and tune up end.
And if all else fails get a fuel pressure gauge on it and post the cold cranking and engine running fuel pressure and check for a fast leak down on fuel pressure. MT-2500 |
