87TC troubles. Please help newbie!!!

After just recently purchasing an 87 towncar, i'm noticing some strange problems.

1)The back windows need assistance going up and down and also make a weird screetching sound.

2)The passenger side mirror is wobbly but does not seem to be loose?

3)My glove compartment has just decided it won't close. I looked inside and saw that a peice of metal that held on the springs to the latch had broken. I called a dealership and they told me to try sticking the glove compartment key in in order to remove the lock cylinder, but the key then would not even turn.

That is all so far. I'm hoping for some quick and inexpensive responses, especially for issue #3. I do not want to have to get a locksmith to fix something as stupid as a glove compartment! As the heading states, I am a newbie on the board, and also not entirely savvy with automotives. I know my way around and am willing to research and figure it out to save some money so please, any suggestions would be great. I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars, and I will NOT resort to duct tape!

=(

No, just foolin...

The rear window screeching/needing help moving is most likely a bad drive motor assy. Some folks tear apart the motor assy. and replace the innards. Others just replace the motor assy.
Could also be something wrong with the Regulator and tracks putting stress on the motor. Replacing the regulator for an 87, it might be a chore finding the parts, I havn't looked.

Side mirror wobbly ? If it's not loose it can't wobble. The innards may be loose if it's vibrating while driving.

Glove box lock broken. The dealer's correct, the latch and lock assy are all one piece and need to be replaced as one. It may be jammed from trying to close the door, and the striker hit the latch, closing the latch before it could wrap around the striker. Since the spring is broken, you may be able to lift/extend the latch by hand while operating the release knob. Then, with it in the open position, you can follow the dealer's removal process.

Removing the latch is easy. Get the door open first, and right up against the bottom of the latch where it meets the inside of the door, there's a metal clip that just slides off. Once you remove the clip, the latch will fall out. You can probably find one at any junk yard that has a TC close to your year model since most interiors didn't change until the 90's I believe. If it's not the same color, no problem. The plastic piece on the front of the latch is interchangeable. You can just swap your's to the replacement and you'll be on your way. Don't loose that clip though...you'll need it! Good luck!

I had the same problem in my 88 Town Car. The first thing you'll want to do is make sure the window is in it's track. If it is, then you should consider replacing the motor. The easiest thing to do is find a junk car and pull the window motor out. make sure you get it from the correct side, because i think the mounting is different. To replace it , remove the door panel and right in front of the defective motor is a crossmember with three indentations. drill out the indentations big enough to fit a socket through and then removing the motor will be easy. You'll see the bolts easily since the are grade 8 and have the shiny bronze color. installing it may be a chore though. you'll have to hold the motor in the right spot and try to thread the bolts in. It isn't easy, since there is no space to fit a hand behind the it, but it can be done
