how do you get the best quality form your sub?

hi guys. i got a Punch P2 15" in a custom box about a month ago and i push it with a DB Drive A290 350w. the sub says: "250 watts RMS/500 watts peak" ... dont know what RMS watts peak mean exactly but the guy that sold it to me said that my amp woudlnt push it so i wud need to get another one. ok so anyway it sounds really good and clear in my car. i pluged up some spaces in the trunk by wetting Kleenexes and putting them in the holes and in between the spots where the welding has broke ($60 for Dynamat my ass!) so it makes my trunk heavier and makes my sub sound alot different. so i want to know what else i can do to make my sound clearer? i noticed when i open my window or my door it sounds alot clearer and a lil louder, why is that? i want to know cuz i plan on selling my system and upgrading to a p3 custom box wit another amp that pushes it with justice, but it would be no point to upgrade your system without mastering the sound of your old one. so any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.
so to recap:
what is the difference between watts RMS and watts peak? why does the sound get better when the doors or windows upen? how do i get the best sound from my speaker? and btw what do you think of my system? i REALLY want sound quality. loudness isnt much to me (i could play my earphone speakers wit SUPER BASS on and it wud sound the same as some systems i hear lol) so any speaker and amp setups will help. thanx guys.

Definately check out that site, it will explain damn near everything you need to know. As far as setups are explained do a search on the audio section you can find post for just about everything, and check out this list it gives a basic ideaof whats better than what http://myweb.cableone.net/grogers/abr.html.

Also remember one thing you get what you pay for so 60 bucks for dynamat might sound expensive but sound dampening is worth every penny when your going for quality. A good system is more how you set it up more than what bands i cant remember eactly but its like 30% brand 70% setup, but that doesnt mean a $30 sony can sound good it can sound better than it should but it wont be like the same spec RE or adire sub.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
