Removing crankshaft pulley on '96 Rodeo 3.2
Well, I'm down to the crank pulley in my pursuit to replace the timing belt and tensioner, water pump, etc on a '96 Rodeo. My question is regarding the nut on the crank, after my first several attempts using a strapwrench and a breaker bar it's still there
. I have soaked it in PB Blaster too!Any chance this thing has left-handed threads? Anyone see any harm in trying an air impact driver on it? |

No, its not left hand threads, IMPACT THAT SUCKER! Just be careful you don't back the impact wrench into the radiator as the bolt comes out.
Or you can use the breaker bar and socket and rest the breaker bar on the frame, disable the ignition, then bump the starter. |

Re: Removing crankshaft pulley on '96 Rodeo 3.2
On my 93, I was able to get a big pair of Channel locks in between the flat belt and v belt sections of the pulley, then used a ratchet with a pipe extension to break it free.

Use the starter-bump trick mentioned above. If that doesn't work, you will most likely need to take it to a shop. I just went through this ordeal, and neither the starter bump or a 500 ft/lb impact would budge it. The shop dissassembled the whole front end to get a 1200ft/lb impact on it, and only then did it come off. Good luck!
