2004 windshield wipers

I have 2004 Isuzu Rodeo 3.5 liter engine. My windshield wipers have been chattering since the time I bought the car brand new. I've changed the wipers numerous times. The dealer has changed the wiper arms and the windshield and it still chatters. Is anyone else having this problem? Could it be something with the motor or module? It normally chatters a lot while in intermittent mode, but sometimes it does chatter in other modes as well.

Wow! you have a good dealer if they even replaced the windshield!! It almost sounds like something is getting on to the blades and/or windshield. Some waxes and cleaners can cause the blades to chatter. Some blades are more prone to it than others. One thing to try is wipe down the blades with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

Re: Re: 2004 windshield wipers

Believe me the dealer ain't that great. The only reason they changed my windshield was because they weren't so bright when they cleaned my windshield. They used an abrasive, and scratched the whole windshield. They even had to repaint my hood because they dropped a tool on it and it knicked the paint all the way to the bare metal. I've tried wiping the blades with alcohol, and even that doesn't work. We've never sent our cars to have it detailed as we always did our cars ourselves, and still do. We also have a brand new truck and we clean it the same wasy as my rodeo and the truck doesn't have this problem.

Sounds like your 'isuzu' dealer is pretty typical then .
You got me stumped with this one . If you flip the wiper arms move smoothly at any time? I'm wondering if there is major slop in the wiper system somewhere? I know the wipers sweep pretty slow on our 2002. Always have.

Angry Re: 2004 windshield wipers

The chattering doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it makes so much noise. Before they changed the windshield it would only chatter one way, now it chatters in both directions. My wipers are slow as well. My rodeo is at the dealers again today and we'll see what they say this time. They'll probably ask me the same question, did you put something on your windshield? Hello, you just changed it last Thursday and I haven't washed my car yet. It's so frustrating, and I keep telling them, if my car worked fine, you'd never hear from me!

Please describe your EXACT technique for truck & window washing.

Does carwash soap get on the windows. (Please do not tell me you are
using dishwasher soap!) How about any other products getting on the
windshield (or wipers)? Wax, polish, armor-all? Do you now have OEM
wipers? If not... what brand? Do you clean your windows with Windex or
spray glass cleaner? Have you tried 'Nothing's Better' hard-water spot
remover? Do you use paper towels, newspaper or cloths? What do you
put in your washer fluid? Pure water or retail blend, anti-icing type? Pink
or blue stuff?

Please let us know in order to better identify the problem.

Re: Re: 2004 windshield wipers

If it happens in one direction only it must be the angle of the wipers, if it happens in both the friction in the windshield is just too high, Does it happen when its really raining??

Re: Re: Re: 2004 windshield wipers

the wipers chatter in both directions now, and i don't put any polish or armorall on my window. it can't be the products we're using because we've been using the same products for the last 2 new cars we've had, and our newest chevy truck and only the isuzu has this problem. i only use car wash soap to wash the car and when cleaning my windows i use a wet cloth and wipe it off with a dry cloth. i don't spray anything special on the window. it happens both when raining really hard and when it's just a light drizzle. i always thought when you buy a new car you wouldn't hear the wipers going, but on the isuzu you can hear the wipers going even with the radio on at a normal volume. the dealer tells me that it's normal, but i don't think so. i tried using OEM wiper blades and it's still the same thing so i changed it back to the original isuzu wiper blades.

My wipers are utterly quiet & chatter free. We had our first rain last night
and I experienced zero problems. This is what I do:

1. Meguir's car wash soap for entire vehicle.
2. Chamois dry everything...incl. windshield/ glass.
3. Spray glass cleaner (no residue type) dried with paper towels.
4. Rain-X wipes, buff dried with microfiber cloth towels.

This procedure makes crystal clear windows that work fantastic in the
rain and stay clean for a week or two at a time. The wipers are the
originals and my truck is 3 years old w/ 80,000 miles and not a squeek!
Hope this helps,
johann
